• 1624, birth of Richard Abrell. As earliest known record of an Abrell in the USA (2) John Abrell, probably brother of Richard, is first mentioned in the records of Norfolk County, Virginia, as of Nov. 20, 1654. (3) John, a Captain, was a representative of New Kent County, Virginia. ( It is from this man - presumably- that the descendants flow from Virginia to Kentucky to Indiana, to Illinois, to Missouri, to California) (2)

Migration to the county had begun several years before as Indiana had become a state in 1816. Tradition claims the first settlers were John Dunn, General Bartholomew, and the Beems who camein the fall of 1816, and Philip Hart who came in October 1816.
Many settlers came during the next decade, most in allied family groups, migrating from some
southern Indiana, Kentucky or North Carolina County. These groups were intermarried and were of one or two faiths. The Fulk, Fiscus, Hauser, Spainhower group came from near Winston-Salem North Carolina to Jefferson Township. The Montgomery County N.C. families containing 18 surnames; Beaman, Langdon, Nichols, Jordan, Haltom etc. settled in the northwest portion of the

• Roots in France ?

Florenz ABRELL. Born 9 April 1849 in Umbaat (that is the best I can do with the spelling), Alsace, France. This information came from his discharge papers. He served in the civil war in the United States from 1862-1864. He joined the 82 Reg't Illinois Infantry. That would have made him 13 years old but the records say he was 20. This regiment was almost
exclusively of recent German immigrants. After the war he married
Margaretha Stephanie _. From this union Louise Marie ABRELL was born. . She had only two brothers, but there were no male issue. She did have three sisters. Although Florence came from Alsace, they were German speaking people. (During the centuries Alsace was part of Germany) (4)
